MONROVIA, June 2 (LINA) – The Ambassador of Liberia to the State of Qatar, Mohammed B.O.S. Kenneth, has paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Qatar News Agency (QNA) Mr. Ahmed Bin Sayeed Al Rumaihi at his office in Doha.
The Liberian Ambassador to the State of Qatar informed the senior Qatari Official that his visit to the Qatar News Agency is aimed at discussing several aspects of joint cooperation between the QNA and the Liberia News Agency (LINA).
Ambassador Kenneth used the occasion to inform Mr. Al Rumaihi that he started his journalism career as a senior reporter at the Liberia News Agency in April 1979, following its establishment just before the summit of the Organization of African Unity (O.A U.) in Monrovia, under the chairmanship of President William R. Tolbert, Jr.
Ambassador Kenneth also told the head of Qatar News Agency that LINA was a vibrant news agency up until the beginning of the Liberian Civil War.
Unfortunately, he said LINA’s equipment at its central office in Monrovia and regional Bureaux were completely vandalized during the war while most of its reporters and editors either became refugees or were killed.
He then suggested that the Government of Liberia would highly appreciate the technical assistance of the Qatari Government through the QNA to revamp LINA installations and equipment in tune with the current modern media technology.
For his part, the Director General of QNA expressed his pleasure for the courtesy visit and assured the Liberian envoy to Qatar of his country’s preparedness to assist the Liberia News Agency.
He suggested that Qatar and Liberia should prepare a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and assistance to make this move a reality as soon as possible.
