MONROVIA, June 6 (LINA) – As part of efforts to celebrate Liberia’s Election on the UN Security Council, former Liberian President George M. Weah, has applauded President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. for putting Liberia on the world stage for the advancement of global peace and security.
The former Liberian leader made the comments through his official social media platform on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, as he extended his heartfelt appreciation to President Boakai for ensuring that such a monumental national aspiration came to a successful conclusion.
“My sincere thanks also go to ECOWAS, the African Union (AU), and all local and international stakeholders who supported Liberia from the onset and followed through today with a resounding vote,” he stated.
He pointed out that when they began the journey, the goal was clear, to claim Liberia’s rightful place on the world stage and advance global peace and security, citing that with this opportunity, Liberians should reaffirm their commitment to championing these ideals while advocating tirelessly for Liberia.
Meanwhile, the former Liberian President and head of opposition political party, Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), urged Liberians to use this landmark achievement to work in the collective interest of the state as a common patrimony for the Liberian people.
Liberia was elected as a non-permanent member on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, with 181 votes following a historic and landmark electoral process held at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA.
