MONROVIA, April 24 (LINA) – The Government of Liberia has initially welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling on the House of Representatives leadership’s imbroglio.

Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah noted that legislators, particularly from the House of Representatives, should seize “this moment as an opportunity to reaffirm themselves to national duty and work harmoniously to settle their matter.”

Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Thursday, April 24, 2025 Minister Piah said the long-standing impasse at the House was harming the nation’s development efforts and wearing away public trust in that government’s institution.

“This internal dispute has the potential to undermine the progress that we are making in national development and governance. The government is deeply concerned that this standoff is becoming a distraction from the critical work required to move Liberia forward,”Minister Piah added.

In the Government’s initial response to the court’s ruling, Minister Piah further emphasized the government’s strong respect for the judiciary decisions, calling on members of the legislature to respect the decision of the Supreme Court, urging them to use the ruling as a foundation in resolving the prolonged political crisis.

He also said the administration will ask key stakeholders, including the National Traditional Council, to help mediate the situation, saying the role of key stakeholders are paramount as the current impasse requires strong collaboration from Liberians.

The mouthpiece of the Liberian government said: “The Supreme Court has spoken. It is time to embrace that decision and move on in the interest of our people. The road to national recovery requires all hands on deck”.

The minister expressed his optimism that with this ruling, the House of Representatives will soon be fully reunited and aligned behind the national vision of inclusive development as outlined in President Boakai’s ARREST Agenda.
