MONROVIA, May 20 (LINA) – The Government of Liberia, in collaboration with CSquared Africa and partners, has officially launched the community WiFi services in Bong and Nimba Counties, marking a significant step towards digital inclusion.

The WIFI service was launched on the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) which is observed every year on May 17 to raise awareness about the possibilities that the use of the internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, and ways to bridge the digital divide.

The celebration, which was held under the global theme “Gender Equality in Digital Transformation,” brought together government leaders, private sector partners, and community members to witness the milestone event.

According to the release from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication, Minister Sekou M. Kromah highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “Together with our private sector partners, we are taking concrete steps to bridge the gender digital divide and empower more Liberians, especially women and youth, through connectivity.”

The release added that with new low-cost WiFi access at health centers, schools, and community spaces, we are actively working to enhance digital literacy and economic participation in underserved communities as this initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that every Liberian can benefit from and contribute to the digital transformation.

As Liberia celebrates WTISD 2025, this launch stands as a clear signal of the country’s commitment to leveraging technology for inclusive development and ensuring every citizen has the tools to thrive in the digital age, the release concluded.
