MONROVIA, April 24 (LINA) – The Government of Liberia through the Liberia Maritime Authority will this year host the 8th Africa Maritime Member States (AMMS) conference in Liberia in October this year.
The AMMES is a combination of African countries working as representatives of the International Maritime Member states organizations in Europe.
Speaking Thursday April 24, 2025’ at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing in Monrovia, Liberia Permanent Representative at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Robert Wilmont Kpadeh said at least 48 African countries including 30 organizations from across the world are expected to be represented.
Kpadeh said the conference is part of efforts to strengthen Liberia bilateral relationship with IMO member’s state and to improve its blue economy.
According to Kpadeh, Liberia was able to win a bid to host the AMMES conference, due to its efforts made in maintaining its integrity at the IMO office.
Kpadeh said Liberia competed with few African countries including Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya to win the bid.
The Liberia IMO representative, however, assured an improved economy and promotion of the country’s maritime environment when the conference is held in the country.
According to him, Liberia Maritime has continued to maintain its integrity by paying its dues and ensuring that it fully implements its responsibilities as a member state of the maritime organization.
