NaFAA, EU Commit To Protect Liberia’s Fisheries Resources

MONROVIA, May 20 (LINA) – In an effort to protect the country’s fisheries resources, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) in collaboration with the European Union (EU) delegation to Liberia have committed to ensuring the improvement of the Collaborative Management Association (CMA).

The disclosure was made at the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) CMA induction ceremony under its Communities for Fisheries Project in Marshall City, Margibi County.

At the ceremony, NaFAA Associate Director for Marine and Environment Anthony Yokie, said that “CMA is responsible for creating rules and regulations that govern fishing activities, including catch limits, gear restrictions, and protected species regulations.”

For her part, the Program Officer of the EU delegation Maria Winnubst mentioned that the EU remains committed to supporting and strengthening CMA activities in Liberia.

The CMA is created to safeguard fisheries, ensuring the resource is managed responsibly and sustainably for the good of everyone, said a NaFAA release issued Friday, May 16, 2025.
