Pres. Boakai Reaffirms Liberia’s Commitment To Regional Unity

MONROVIA, April 23 (LINA) – The President of the Republic of Liberia Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to regional unity.

The Liberian leader highlighted the nation’s dedication to fostering unity and collaboration among member states.

President Boakai is currently in Accra, Ghana, participating in the official launch of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee celebrations at the Accra International Conference Centre, an Executive Mansion release noted Wednesday April 23, 2025.

It cited that President Boakai lauded ECOWAS as a beacon of regional integration, peace, and economic cooperation, emphasizing Liberia’s unwavering commitment to the principles and objectives of the regional bloc.

“ECOWAS has been instrumental in promoting stability and development across West Africa,” President Boakai stated, assuring that “Liberia remains steadfast in its support for the Organization’s mission and will continue to work collaboratively with fellow member states to address our shared challenges and aspirations.”

The release noted that the Golden Jubilee celebration serves as a platform for member states to reflect on the achievements of the past five decades and to strategize on future initiatives aimed at enhancing regional integration and prosperity.

President Boakai is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility, National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods, Economic Adviser Morley Kamara, and Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs Anthony Myers.

The Economic Community of West African States is a regional political and economic union of twelve countries of West Africa. Collectively, 

ECOWAS aims to promote economic integration and development in West Africa by fostering cooperation and trade among its member states. It seeks to improve living standards and create a more unified economic space through various initiatives, including free trade and the establishment of a common market.
