MONROVIA, May 19 (LINA) – Bomi County Senator Edwin M. Snowe has acknowledged the contribution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in resolving the recent leadership impasses that engulfed the House of Representatives.

In a communication addressed to the office of the sixth Legislative Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Memounatou Ibrahim, dated May 15, 2025, Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe recognized the peaceful and lawful election of current speaker Richard Nagbe Koon following a recent heated conflict that lasted over six months.

According to the Bomi County Senator who also serves as the head of Liberian delegation to the ECOWAS parliament, the election of the new Speaker has brought back the decent image that the Liberian Legislature lost over the past few months.

Senator Snowe said following the recent Supreme Court ruling and subsequent resignation of embattled speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa, the House of Representatives convened in regular session and elected Representative Richard Koon as new speaker of the Republic of Liberia.

The Bomi County Senator and Chair on Peace and Security at the ECOWAS Parliament noted that all these efforts were also part of the many interventions the ECOWAS Parliament made in addressing peace and stability in the country.

Senator Snowe used the occasion to express the Liberian Legislature’s commitment and promise its full cooperation to ECOWAS activities.
