MONROVIA, May 20 (LINA) – Just days after sparking political controversy by expressing a dissenting opinion on the Unity Party-led government, Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr., has taken a more conciliatory tone in a reflective message following a breakfast meeting with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.
In an official Facebook post on May 16, 2025, Senator Snowe recounted what he described as a warm, frank, and forward-looking engagement with President Boakai, held in observance of National Unification Day. The meeting, coordinated by Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung and Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, brought together leaders from across the political divide in a show of national solidarity.
“Our engagement was warm, frank, and forward-looking,” Snowe wrote, adding, “we discussed matters close to both our hearts, the peace, progress, and prosperity of Mama Liberia.”
The senator’s tone in the statement posted sharply contrasts with his recent controversial remark suggesting he wanted the Unity Party government to fail, a statement that drew sharp criticism and raised concerns about political divisiveness.
However, in his latest message, Snowe emphasized unity and the importance of responsible discourse, especially in Liberia’s fragile democratic environment.
“What stood out most was the President’s reaffirmed commitment to dialogue, his respect for the views of the opposition, and his willingness to lead with civility and restraint,” Snowe recounted his meeting with Pres. Boakai.
He also appeared to walk back earlier criticism, stating, as a proud member of the opposition, let me restate this without hesitation: I love Liberia. I want what’s best for her. My role is not to tear down, but to speak truth, offer solutions, and help steer our nation forward constructively, boldly, and patriotically.
The Senator called for continued prayers for Liberia’s leadership and peace across the nation. May God continue to guide our leaders, and may His grace forever rest upon our land—our home, our hope, our Liberia.
The breakfast meeting was part of broader efforts to foster national unity during the Unification Day period, a time when Liberians are encouraged to set aside political differences and reflect on the shared identity that binds the nation.
